Very few sharks are as fearsome as the one depicted in the movie Jaws. In fact, there are over 350 different types of sharks in the world, from gentle giants like the plant-eating whale shark, which can measure up to 50 feet long, to tiny pygmy sharks, which are small enough to fit in a shoebox. The Delaware Bay serves as an important nursery area for many shark species, including smooth dogfish, sand tiger, and sandbar sharks. The smooth dogfish is one of the most common, both in the bay and along the Atlantic Coast.
