February – Shifting Sandscape
Cape Henlopen sits where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Delaware Bay – a dynamic spot that is constantly sculpted by wind, currents, and waves. The cape is in a state of continuous change as the minuscule pieces of seashells, minerals, and rocks that serve as its building blocks shift and move.
When these sand particles are blown by wind and anchored by plants they form the rolling dunes of Delaware's coast, which provide a hardy natural barrier to the destructive power of coastal storms. Both beautiful and functional, sand dunes provide important natural habitat for wildlife while protecting coastal communities from pounding waves and extreme tides. Photo by Lisa Tossey

14 – Valentine’s Day – Need recipe ideas to create a memorable meal for a loved one on this day? Try one of last year’s winning Coast Day recipes.
17 – The Great Backyard Bird Count – Join in to help researchers tally bird populations for this fun event. In 2011, citizen scientists throughout North America counted over 11 million birds of 594 different species!
20 – Presidents Day – As you take time to honor past presidents on this day, find out how you can become an environmental leader.
