Beach Treasures
Beachcombing — walking along the beach to see what treasures have washed ashore — is fun to do on a summer day. But try it during the colder months and you’ll learn what the best beachcombers know: The season’s strong storms and lack of crowds leave behind the most amazing finds! Driftwood, egg cases, and shells are among the objects you might encounter. You might also come across a piece of sea glass, which is glass that has been tumbled smooth by water and sand. Or maybe you’ll find some coral, a whelk, or a sand dollar. Just be sure to leave live organisms where you found them because most can’t survive outside their natural habitats.

Set clocks back one hour at 2 a.m.
11 – Veterans’ Day
Observation towers and bunkers at Cape Henlopen State Park, formerly a military base that protected the mouth of Delaware Bay, are quiet reminders of soldiers’ service in World War II.

The University of Delaware, which traces its origin to this private academy, received its collegiate charter from the state in 1833 and was designated one of the nation’s land-grant colleges in 1867.
25 – Thanksgiving
The University of Delaware’s R/V Hugh R. Sharp is 146 feet long and carries up to 20 scientists on missions throughout Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The Mayflower was considerably more crowded. This approximately 100-foot ship carried 102 passengers to the New World.
